Dorothy Jean Pittenger of Ozark, Mo. passed from this life to eternal life on June 3rd, 2017. She is survived by her three children, James Green of Ozark, Mo., Kelly Johnson of Fayetteville AR and Sammye Schmahl of Anchorage, Alaska. Along with her children and their spouses, she is survived by five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren with another great-grandchild due in the fall. Mom was the only child of the late Joe and Vivian Pittenger of Harrison, Ark. She was born in Los Angeles on July 20th 1937. The family traveled for several years before making a home just outside of Alpena AR, where she graduated high school in 1955. Marrying Lewis Green in 1955, she traveled with him to his various military assignments across the country while raising three children. Lewis preceded her in death in 1995. Mom loved finding a treasure at a yard sale or flea market, reading and showering her cat with devotion and attention. She was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan and was always crushed when they didn't make it to the World Series. If there was a Razorback Basketball game she knew all the players by name. She also loved game shows, never missed Jeopardy and usually had all the answers! Dorothy remained in Harrison for many years caring for her parents. After the death of her father, she moved to Rogers, Ark. with her mother and worked at several places in the community. Mom remained in the Rogers until she retired in 2007 due to health issues. Later that year she relocated to Ozark, Mo. to live with family where she remained until a stroke necessitated nursing care. The family wishes to thank Ozark Nursing and Care Center for making Mom's last months as comfortable as possible. Additionally, our gratitude to Mercy Hospital ICU for their compassion and care in her last weeks. A private service will be held at a later date with internment at Maplewood Cemetery in Harrison, Ark.
