Alan Lee Comen

Alan Comen passed away, Friday, June 16, 2017 in Horseshoe Bend, Ark., Alan was born to Dr. Benjamin R Comen, DDS and Cecilia A Ahronson Comen on Aug. 14, 1937 in Bridgeport, Conn. He spent his childhood in Bridgeport and Stratford, Conn. Alan graduated from Stratford High School, received his BS from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and his PhD in chemistry from Purdue University in Indiana. He began his career with Hercules Incorporated as a research chemist and moved into sales supervision and management. He retired after thirty years with Hercules Incorporated. Alan is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanna Legro Comen; son, David and wife Joan of Anderson, S.C., son Stephen and wife Renee of Dallas, Texas. He is survived by six grandchildren. Ben Comen of Spartanburg, S.C., Alex and wife Katie of Knoxville, Tenn., Chris Comen of Kernersville, N.C., Megan Comen of Greenville, S.C., Masie Comen of Austin, Texas, and Aaron Comen of Dallas, Texas. He was of the Jewish faith and preceded in death by his parents. A Celebration of Life will be held, Monday June 19 at 11 a.m. at Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church, Horseshoe Bend, Ark. Visitation will be Sunday evening at Doty Family Funeral Chapel beginning at 6 p.m. Interment will be private at Evening Shadow Memorial Park in Horseshoe Bend, Ark. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Horseshoe Bend fire and rescue association or Ozarka College Foundation.
