Edna Grace Finch, of North Little Rock, was born in Gilmore, Arkansas, to Elizabeth Watts and Adolf James, who predeceased her. She passed away in the evening on June 27th. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, James Finch; her two children, James Allen Finch of Los Angeles, Calif. and Kristen (Andy) Johnston of Houston, Texas, three grandchildren, Hannah, Katherine and Matthew Johnston and her brother, Norwood Watts (Betty) James. She was predeceased by her 1/2 brother, William Billy Griffin and step sister Karen Stevens. Edna Grace was raised in Gilmore and attended Arkansas State Teachers College where she received a BS degree in elementary education and was a member of the Alpha Sigma Tau sorority. She also earned a Masters degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. E.G. as she was affectionately known, taught first grade for nine years before having children. She could not pass by Lakewood Elementary without mentioning how much she enjoyed teaching and interacting with the children. E.G. loved being around people. She always had a kind word for everyone and never met a stranger. She felt that helping others was important and brought joy as well as compassion to many. E.G. was a member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church where she attended services and bible study. The Blue Jean Service on Sunday mornings was her favorite. She loved listening to the church band play music and connecting with the other members of the congregation. She always took pleasure in going up to the family farm where she would ride the four-wheeler with Jim to check the game cameras. The two spent many hours taking in the scenery and looking for the variety of wildlife living there. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 30th from 12-1 p.m. at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street, prior to the Memorial Service which will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Rest Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakewood United Methodist Church. Please visit www.smithfamilycares.com to sign the online guest register.
