Robert E. Thurston

MSGT(Ret) Robert E. Thurston, 72, of Jacksonville, Ark. passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017. He was born on September 9, 1945 in Forrest City Arkansas. He served in the Vietnam War 1968-1969, 5th Mechanized Infantry Div 1/77th Armor Battalion, "Steel Tigers". Master Sergeant Thurston, retired as a Battalion Maintenance Supervisor, US Army Reserves in 1996. He was also employed and retired as Supervisor for the Area Maintenance Support Activity (AMSA) for the State of Arkansas, US Army Reserves in 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd Thurston, mother, Ruby Jones, brother, Jeffery Thurston. Thurston leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Linda who he truly loved, step-sons, Mose Rice (Barbie) Richardson, Texas and Michael Mahone, Jacksonville, Ark., sisters: Rogenia Beavers (Archie), and Shelia Woods, St. Louis, Mo., Floyda Williams, Forrest City, Ark., Benita Meeks, Paramount, Calif., Teresa Washington (Richard) and Floyd Thurston, Minneapolis, Minn., John Thurston, Winterset, Iowa, four grandkids, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Visitation, Friday, November 10, 2017 from 6-7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 11 a.m., viewing from 10-11 a.m., both services will be held at St. Mark Community Church, 800 N. First St., Jacksonville, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mark Community Church Mortgage Fund.
