MICHAEL J. "MIKE" JOHNSTON, 75, of Hensley, died Friday, April 6, 2018 at home. He was born September 17, 1942 in Oakland, Calif., son of John Henry Johnston and Jewell Edwards Johnston. Mr. Johnston was reared and received his early education in California, graduating from San Leandro High School. He served in the United States Army. After his service, he moved to Pine Bluff, Ark., where he obtained a drafting certificate from Pines Vo Tech. Mike worked for the Pine Bluff Arsenal for many years, retiring in 2009 in construction management. He was a very creative person who loved dancing, was an amazing artist, wood craftsman and designed many houses in Pine Bluff and the City of Pine Bluff flag. Mike was a member of Grace Church in Hensley. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth Burns Johnston, whom he married May 6, 1967, in Watson Chapel; daughter, Beth McGarity (Patrick) of Sheridan; son, Matt Johnston (Mischia) of Fayetteville; sister, Melinda Jester of Hensley; and four grandchildren, Camden Johnston, Josie McGarity, James Patrick McGarity and Maebrie Johnston. Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2018, 6-8 p.m., at Grace United Methodist Church, Hensley, by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors. Private services will be at a later date.
