CHARLES B. HUMPHREY, 70, of Little Rock, Ark., departed this earth to be with his heavenly father on April 14, 2018. Charles was born on September 3, 1947, to late Buford and Ann Humphrey. He was a devoted Christian who served the Lord, a loving husband, and caring father not only to his own children but the community as well. Charles worked for the City of Little Rock in Parks & Recreation for 38 years. When he retired in December 2011, from the city, Mayor Mark Stodola declared January 5, as Charles B. Humphrey Day with the City of Little Rock and City Manager Bruce Moore named Jim Dailey Fitness and Aquatic Center gymnasium court, Charles B. Humphrey Court where he worked as the Fitness Director for 20 years. He was, also, a licensed massage therapist. Due to his love for recreation, he mastered and played many sports for fun. Charles coached basketball, volleyball, and track. He played basketball as a shooting guard on championship teams at Horace Mann High School in Little Rock, Arkansas and Arkansas Agricultural, Mechanical, and Normal College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was an avid Pickleball player where he would travel all over the United States to play. Volleyball was one sport he officiated. He officiated volleyball games for high school and colleges. He won several volleyball Men and Women Regional Championships. He was selected as the top AIC Volleyball Official for several years and received an Outstanding Director Award for Exemplification of a Model Program along with several other accomplishments. Charles was a member of Shamrock Lodge #25, PHA and Mohammed Temple #34, Motor Patrol Unit of Little Rock, Arkansas. Living on to remember and cherish his memories of a life well lived are his wife, Sheila Humphrey; two sons, Kyle Humphrey, and Chad Humphrey; two daughters, Karryne Gray (Grian) and Shelley Humphrey. He has one very special granddaughter Sophia Grace who stole his heart and called him Pawpaw. His brothers, James Humphrey (Ollie), Richard Humphrey, and Cody Humphrey. His sisters, Freddie Anderson, JoAnn Curry, Betty Humphrey, Bobbie Humphrey (Horace), and Diedra Jackson (Ronnie). He is preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy Collins and Chana Humphrey; and his parents. The Celebration of His Life will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church Highland Park located at 1701 S. Pine Street, Little Rock, Ark. Burial will be at Haven-Rest Cemetery 7102 W. 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. Services provided by Ruffin & Jarrett Funeral Home, 1200 S. Chester Street, Little Rock, Ark. (501)372-1305
