Edwin T. Gray Sr.

Edwin T. Gray Sr. Major USMC Retired. Edwin T. Gray Sr., of Romance, Ark., formerly of Jacksonville, Ark., passed from this world on Aug. 1st, 2018. Enlisted at Little Rock, Ark., in April 1953 and received recruit training at MCRD San Diego, Calif., and Basic Cooks School, Montford Point, N.C. In 1956, Acting Sergeant (E-4) Gray was selected to attend the First Advanced Food Service Course conducted for Marines at Montford Point, N.C. In April 1963 CWO Gray was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant under the LDO program and assigned as the OIC, West Coast Food Management Team. In March 1967, Captain Gray was assigned as the Food Service Officer, 3d Marine Division, Phu Bai, RVN. In May 1968, he was assigned as Assistant Head, Food Service Officer and Exchange Division, Supply Department, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. In August 1970, Captain Gray was assigned as the Food Service Officer, Marine Corps Base/FMFPAC, Twentynine Palms, Calif. Major Gray retired with more than twenty years of service on Oct. 1, 1973. Major Gray continued his life's work and retired two additional times before returning to his home in Jacksonville, Ark. Major Gray was preceded in death by his father Edward T. Gray WWI veteran, and his mother Lydia G. Gray. Edwin was also preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 63 years Doris Justice Gray, infant son Steven Lynn Gray, adult son Michael Wayne Gray and adult son Jon Stanley Gray. Edwin is survived by his son Edwin T. Gray Jr., wife Kathleen, and son Mark Alan Gray, wife Lisa. Edwin is also survived by his sister Paula Gray Sneed of Okolona, Ark. Edwin has 13 grandchildren: Jesse, Kimberlie, Sharon, Andrea, Sean, Julian, Daniel, Steven, Nicholas, Christopher, Emily, Hayley and Lucas. Edwin also has eight great-grandchildren: Torrin, Lima, Carson, Thea, Freyja, Issis, Elizabeth and Levi. Funeral Services are being planned for the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at a yet unknown date. All persons desiring to attend please send contact information to: yargte@gmail.com.
