Olivia Jean Shertz

Olivia Jean Shertz, 72, of Tebbetts, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018 at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on April 23, 1946 in Brownfield, Texas; a daughter of J.T. and Adelia (Chaves) Corning, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 23, 1965, she was married to the late Charles D. Shertz in Springfield, Mo. Olivia attended College of the Ozarks, where she earned a BA in Physical Education and a minor in biology. She also attended Metro Business College. She worked for 20 years as a Legislative Assistant at the Missouri State Capital. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, painting and going to the casino. She is survived by her children, Lorrie Whitener of Jefferson City, Eric Shertz of Tebbetts and Craig (Tina) Shertz of West Plains; grandchildren, Cale Shertz, Stacey Shertz, and Olivia Shertz; brothers, Terrell Corning of Springfield, David Corning of Conway, Ark., and Cecil Corning of Morrilton, Ark.; and sister, Carol Pennebaker of Clinton, Ark. Olivia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles D. Shertz; brothers, Edward, Ben and John Corning; and grandson, Lucas Shertz. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018 at the Elks Lodge, 901 Ellis Boulevard, Jefferson City, Mo. Interment will be private for the family at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
