William Edgar (Bill) Humphries

William Edgar (Bill) Humphries, 64, Little Rock native, died January 20 at his home near Yelm, WA. He was born Feb. 28,1953, to the late Earl and Bernice Johnson Humphries of Little Rock and Judsonia. A 1971 graduate of Central High School, he attended Ouachita Baptist University, then earned a BA degree in Environmental Management from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and a MA in Watershed Management from Utah State University. A registered professional geologist, his early career was with engineering and environmental companies in Arkansas, Colorado and Oklahoma. In 1996 he moved to Alaska, where he was an executive for several Alaskan Native Corporations. He delighted in his children and grandson and loved music, guitars, books, sports (especially baseball) and the outdoors. He was an organizer and first president of The Ouachita Mountain Hikers. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kay Engstrom Humphries; son John Eric Humphries, New Haven, Conn.; daughter, Lea (Andy) Harmon and grandson Tommy, Bend, Ore.; sisters, Earlece Pearce, Marietta, Ga.; Gwen Ross, Concord, Calif, and Janie (Scott) Blome, Louisville, Ky., and loving nieces, nephews, uncle, aunts, cousins and in-laws. A celebration of life will be held in Little Rock at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4501 Rahling Road. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Billy Mitchell Boy's and Girl's Club/Lamar Porter Field, or the LRCH Tiger Foundation, both in Little Rock.
