Charlene Atkinson Burns, 87, of Conway, Ark. went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 30, 2018. Charlene was born February 5, 1930 in Pine Bluff, Ark. to the late Charles and Norma Ellison Atkinson. She attended St. Louis Institute of Music and Washington University in St. Louis. She received a BS in Education (UAM), MS in Education (U of A), and a MS in Psychology (UCA). She worked many years as School Teacher in the music and elementary education field. Charlene married Kenneth Burns on September 1, 1967 and they have been married for 50 years. Her parents, sister Celia Birdwell, and sister, Mildred Kemp preceded her in death. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her loving husband Kenneth Burns; daughters: Beth Hays (Jim) of Conway and Nancy Bluerock of Sherman, Texas; brothers: Curtis Atkinson of Littleton, Colo. and John Atkinson (Catherine) of White Hall; granddaughters: Laura Deem (Zac) of Little Rock and Sarah Hays of Conway. Charlene was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church of Conway. She served as Moderator of Presbyterian Women. Committal will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff, Ark. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. at 1st Presbyterian Church, Conway. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to 1st Presbyterian Church, 2400 Prince St, Conway, Ark. 72034; or to St. Joseph's Indian School, P.O. Box 326, Chamberlain, S.D. 57326.
