Dale "Duckie" Gilbert Wood

Dale "Duckie" Gilbert Wood, 80, of Florence passed away surrounded by family at his home on Tuesday January 30, 2018. Family will receive friends and family of the deceased on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The Memorial Service will be officiated by Brother Stan Dean on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Ben Wood, Daniel Wood, Colby Calhoun, Chris Smith, Chris Willis and Allan Tucker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Doug Browner, Jim Moody, Bill Goode and Hank Prater. Dale was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Lessie and George Wood on April 18, 1937. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee after high school to pursue a career in X-Ray sales which he flourished in. He married his wife, Sherrin Dietz Wood on December 31, 1958 and they had four children. Dale was an active father throughout their lives and continued to have a close relationship with his children into adulthood. He opened his own X-Ray business in 1983 (W.W. X-Ray) where he worked until 2017. He loved golf, football, cards and a good laugh. He was an avid member of The Elks Lodge, Florence Golf and Country Club, The Moose Lodge and he was a member of First United Methodist Church in Florence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherrin Dietz Wood; his parents, George and Lessie Wood; his brother, Jim Bob Wood; grandchildren, Jake Wood and Mollie Pollard. He is survived by his companion, Mary "Weezie" Lemon; his three sons: Mark Wood (Angie), Kevin Wood (Janet), Gil Wood (Tricia); daughter: Sherrie Pollard (Ted). Grandchildren: Ginni Wood Ogletree(Bryan), Tricia Wood Wright (Nick), Michelle Pollard Calhoun (Richard), Jessica Pollard Shroyer (Nathan), Ben Wood, Daniel Wood, and Emily Wood; Granddaughter-in-law: Mallory Wood; Great-grandchildren: Colby Calhoun, Anna Dietz Calhoun, Logan Owens, Ellie Owens, Aubrey Shroyer, Chloe Shroyer, Graham Wood, and Owen Wright. Family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Katragadda in Huntsville, Dr. Pritchard in Florence, Kindred Home Health and Hospice as well as caregivers: Karen Key, Shirley Suttle, Georgetta Pender and Cynthia Brown. Should friends desire, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Association or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
