Frances Curtis Howe

Frances Curtis Howe, age 81 of Knoxville, Tennessee and Helena, Arkansas passed away Sunday morning February 18, 2018, at home. Born and raised in Helena Arkansas, Frannie attended Randolph Macon College in Virginia and the University of Arkansas, graduating with a degree in Business and a lifelong appreciation for razorbacks. Along the way, she became a member of the Colonial Dames, a faithful and dedicated Chi Omega, and a devoted member of the Junior League. She met her husband, John Wesley Howe in Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Knoxville following their marriage, helping to support him during his medical training by working as a schoolteacher. Throughout her life, she cultivated profound talents in cooking for her family, tennis, and especially gardening. As a member of the Garden Study Club, she will be remembered for her affinity for flowers as well as their affinity for her. She possessed a sharp intellect and lively interests including travel, ancient and contemporary history, travel, baseball, travel, music, and travel. Those fortunate enough to have known her will miss her, and remember her as the apotheosis of beauty and Southern grace and charm, a true lady in the deepest sense of the words, as generous and loving a person as ever blessed our Existence. She leaves behind many, many friends, two biological children and a host of those proud to be considered as her children, a loving and devoted extended family, and four closets full of Maud Frizon footwear from Bob Ellis' Shoes in Charleston. Preceded in death by her husband, Johnny and her beloved sister, Carolyn "Carrie" Bond, she is survived by her two children, William Curtis and Caroline Pace, her children-in-law, Jeffrey Perry McCamy and Elizabeth Anne Howe, her grandchildren, Bogan, Jack, David, Scotty, Johnny B., Sage, and Sam. Memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 23 at St. Johns Episcopal Cathedral with a Celebration of Life Reception to follow at Cherokee Country Club at 4:30 p.m. Arrangements by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
