Larry Ross Hillis

I was born, I blinked and it was over! Larry Ross Hillis, 80 of Dumas, Arkansas passed away in Dumas on Friday, February 23, 2018. Larry was born on August 8, 1937 in Redfield, Arkansas and was the son of the late, Chester and Ara Moring Hillis. His parents and a grandson, Lanny Patrick Sack preceded him in death. He graduated from Plum Bayou High School, Wright, Arkansas, with tales still being told about his time there. He was a farmer and lived in England for about 40 years where he and his friends enjoyed participating in much mischief. In 1979, he moved to Dumas and continued to build on that reputation. Larry lived a thousand years in the eighty that God gave him here on earth. He was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest and had a firm understanding of all the things that were most important. He was a man who knew his Savior, loved his family, his many friends and was a faithful member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. He was a very generous man and the members of his church and community, in England and Dumas, felt that compassion in real ways, whether it was in a financial way or a physical way, he was the first to meet a need. He was fortunate enough to have a long list of good and happy times in his life, but his single greatest accomplishment was marrying his wife and best friend, Patricia Morrison Hillis, who supported him in all his "glory days", more importantly, took such loving care of him in the last few months of his life when living was not much fun. He enjoyed flying (and scaring the heck out of first time passengers!), farming, hunting with his family and friends. He loved a good rare steak and looked forward to a hot cup of coffee with all his buddies at Cash's every morning. Larry lived life just like he wanted. He touched many people in his life, some were willing and several not so willing! He laughed often, many times when not particularly appropriate and those close to him said he never had much of a filter! Larry was always so much fun to be around. He had a great sense of humor that was very creative and sometimes outrageous! He was a great story teller and you can rest assured that at least 50% of the stories were true or at least partially true. His grandchildren loved those tales and thought he was the coolest "Big Daddy" that ever lived. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of 38 years, two sons, Greg (Sheree) Hillis of Pickens, Arkansas and Doug (Carrie) Hillis of Conway, Arkansas, three daughters, Vicky (Bill) James of Russellville, Arkansas, Shelley Sack of Winnetka, Illinois and Stacy Roebuck of Dumas, Arkansas, his loving sisters, Judy (Gene) Holman of Conway, Arkansas and Linda (George) Elias of Cummings, Georgia. He was also blessed with eight Grandchildren and twelve Great-Grandchildren with two more in the oven. Visitation held 5-7 PM, Monday, February 26, 2018 held at First Baptist Church Faith Center. Funeral services held at 10 AM Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Julius Carter officiating. Burial will be held following service at 3 PM, Mulberry Cemetery, England, Arkansas Pallbearers are his Grandchildren, Matt Hillis, Jordan Hillis, Trey James, Jon Ross James, Kyle Hillis, Peyton Hillis, Haley Hillis Davis and Zachary Sack.
