BILLY CHARLES SMITH, 85, of Jacksonville, Ark., passed from this life unexpectedly, due to a fall, on Jan. 20, 2018. He was born July 13, 1932, in Del Rio, Texas, to William Joslin Smith and Martha Clementine Thomas Smith. For 33 years, Mr. Smith proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He served in multiple locations including: Korea, Okinawa, Arizona, Florida, Germany, Maine, Colorado, California, North Dakota & Arkansas, where he retired in 1985. He was utterly devoted to his country, family and friends. Billy was known for his integrity and dry sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of over 55 years, Peggy Charlene Hendricks Smith, and his beloved miniature dachshund, Casey. One of Billy's most treasured possessions was a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia he purchased in 1971. He often discussed restoring the car with his grandsons. Survivors include his daughter, Sandra Kay Kyle, and husband, Jerry, of Austin, Texas, sister, Patricia Smith Sams, of Houston, Texas, grandchildren, Carter Clementine Kyle, Dillon Samuel Kyle, & twins, James Van Kyle and Judson Van Kyle, all of Austin, Texas. Other survivors include his niece, Ann Hunter, of Houston, Texas, and nephew, David Sills, of Friendswood, Texas, along with a host of extended family and friends. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 2, 2018, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock, Ark., with full military honors. A viewing will be held at Moore's Funeral Home in Jacksonville, Ark., on Thursday, Feb. 1, from 6-8 p.m. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Smith's neighbors, Linda, Kevin and Stephanie Mathews, for their love and kindness toward Billy.
