NEVA JANE ROSS, of Little Rock, passed away July 5, 2018. She was born in Hobart, Okla., just prior to the dust bowl and Great Depression. She lost her mother to appendicitis at the tender age of two and from that point was essentially raised by her six older siblings. Neva's independence and resourcefulness developed from a hardscrabble life in the cotton farms of SW Oklahoma and later southern Arkansas. She assembled airplanes in Wichita, Kan., during World War II at the age of 17 and later became an accountant for the Army Corps of Engineers. She married James ("Pappy") Ross and raised three children: Charlotte, Ronnie and Connie. Neva had a love for family, travel, and adventure especially when she could combine all three. She loved to pass on her knowledge by teaching her six grandchildren to fish, cook, garden, and other practical life skills. She and Pappy rarely missed a ballgame, pom-pom recital or school play. She was one of a kind with energy and a lust for life. She made the most of her resources and was devoted to her family of 13 brothers and sisters, dozens of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Neva will be remembered as a tough, fiery, sometimes sarcastic redhead who was not afraid of a challenge or blazing a new trail. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock, (501) 661-9111, with Rev. James Hays officiating and Randall Chad Parks delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. Tuesday until service time at the funeral home. To sign the online guestbook, go to www.griffinleggetthealeyroth.com.
