Frances "Jean" Sumner West

Frances "Jean" Sumner West, 80 of Monticello and temporarily Grapevine, went to meet her Lord on July 10, 2018 at Baptist Health in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was born on April 13, 1938 in Warren to the late William and Fanny Sumner. She was a 1956 graduate of Monticello High. Jean was a devoted wife to Billy George West, her childhood sweetheart whom she married on June 24, 1956 in Monticello First Baptist Church. The Wests served together in many congregations within Arkansas and Louisiana over the 60+ years where he preached. Proverbs 31 fully describes the servanthood of the Lord that she lived daily in many capacities using her numerous skills of cooking, sewing, nurturing and gardening. Jean was a homemaker and teaching mother above all of her duties. She helped her family outside the home working in different capacities. She served in missionary work to Zimbabwe, helping to build mission church at Redfield, day camp and Siloam Springs Baptist Camp. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Pulford Sumner, Jr., Cynthia Fannie Wherry Sumner Wheeler and Clifton A. Wheeler. In December 2017 her granddaughter, Melissa Ann West Ray preceded her by gaining an early heavenly reward. Survivors include her husband, Billy George West of Monticello (Grapevine), their son, Billy Gene (Pam) West of Sunnyvale, Texas, their two daughters, LaWanda (Joe) Mounts of Ozark, Ark., Lillian (Jeff) Thompson of Grapevine, Ark., and their foster daughter, Ruby Ayers of Bodcaw, Ark. She was lovingly called 'Mamaw' and 'Mammie' by her 19 grands: Penny Brown, Michelle Clendenen, John Northcutt, Adam (Julie) West, Brooke West (Tyler) Butler, Justin (Regina) Thompson, Joseph (Lizzie) Moring, Tim (Lydia) Mounts, Jason (Hope) Thompson, Jonathan (Shy) Mounts, Lauren West (Jonathan) Stubbs, Matt (Sky), Natalie, Sarah, Faith, Eden, Angelica and Bethany Mounts, 20 greats: Blake, Alex, Colby, Katie, Jacob, Bella, Drew, Levi, Alexandria, Maddie Joy, Gideon, Dakota, Annabelle, Kenleigh, Emma, Rugbie, Hunter-Beth, Arrow, Raydon and Titus, 2 great greats, one half- sister, Ida 'Red' Sumner of Mill Valley, Calif., along with numerous friends and cousins. The family will have a graveside service in the morning hours at Oakland Cemetery in Monticello. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life service at First Baptist Church Monticello on July 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. led by Bro. Dennis Dodson and her family.
