Ernest Claude Gray

Ernest Claude Gray, 87, of Cabot, passed peacefully Sunday, July 15, 2018. He was born April 22, 1931 in Calhoun, Georgia to the late Ernest and Bessie Gray. Ernie was the eldest son of nine children. He enlisted in the Army Reserve in September, 1952 and later joined the Air Force in October, 1962. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the Air Force on September 30, 1986 with 34 years of service to his country. He was very dedicated to his community and spent many years serving the Cabot Kiwanis Club. Ernie was also a small business owner and craftsman/home builder. He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Frances Lavonda Gray. Survivors include his four children, Cathy Smith, Jerry Gray, Tony Gray, and Mark Gray; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Glenda Faye Martin, Carolyn Law, and Joyce Baker, and two brothers, Duane Gray and Wendell Gray. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with interment to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Cabot Kiwanis Club.
