Dr. Jimmie Dwayne Brewer, 71, of Searcy, died Friday, July 20, 2018, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center. He was born in Fayetteville, Ark., October 28, 1946, the son of Rev. Burl Clyde and Donna Wier Brewer. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Gerald Brewer (Loretta) of Russellville and Ronnie Brewer (Louise) of Alexander. He is survived by his wife of 49½ years, Peggy Caldwell Brewer; a daughter, LaDonna Marie Cole (Blake) of Romance, Ark.; a son, David Joel Brewer (Kandis); a granddaughter, Alyssa Mariah Brewer; two grandsons, Andrew David Brewer and Alec Jayden Brewer of Woodstock, Ill.; a sister Patty Goza (Gerald) of Cash, Ark.; and many other relatives, friends, and colleagues. Dr. Brewer earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Arkansas State University – Jonesboro, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, both from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary – Springfield, Mo., and a Doctor of Ministry in Communications from Harding University – Searcy, Ark. He was an ordained minister affiliated with the Assemblies of God and pastored churches in Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, and California. He was a University Administrator and Professor at Southwestern Assemblies of God University – Waxahachie, Texas, and Bethany University – Scotts Valley, Calif. Prior to returning to his hometown of Searcy, Jimmie served as Assistant to the Head Master of Monte Vista Christian School – Watsonville, Calif. He managed several key technology and building improvement projects for the school in that time. Jimmie was an avid cyclist, a hobby that he began in his early 60's. He enjoyed several versions of the sport including mountain biking and street cycling. He completed several milestone rides including multiple 100 miles per day rides and a 70 mile ride on his 70th birthday. He meticulously tracked his total miles ridden and celebrated the fact that in less than 10 years having ridden more than 25,000 miles, approximately the distance of circumnavigating the globe. Visitation will be held Monday, July 23, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home – Searcy, Ark. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Searcy, Ark.
