John Houston Bryant Sr., age 86, of Dermott died Friday, July 20, 2018 at Belle View Estates in Monticello, Ark. Houston was born Aug. 13, 1931 in Jerome, Ark., to the late Emmett A. and the late Nora (Rodgers) Bryant. He served in the Navy during the Korean War conflict where he received several medals which include, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Navy Occupation Service Medal. He was lifelong resident of Chicot County, was a farmer and loved his hobby of trapping animals for the locals in Chicot County. Houston served as the Coop Manager for Southern Farmers Association in Dermott and Eudora for more than 25 years. Houston was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Claudean Prescott Bryant and sister, Margie Bryant. Houston is survived by a son, John H. Bryant Jr. and wife, Shannon of Belle Vista, Ark.; two daughters, Janice B. Barden and husband, Douglas of Citronelle, Ala., and Lynn Courson and husband, Paul of Lake Village, Ark.; one sister, Lois Christmas of Monticello, Ark., and one brother, Danny Bryant of Morrilton, Ark.; five grandchildren, Matthew Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Andy Chaney Bryant, Taylor Dean Courson and Ashley Hickman and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be Monday, July 23 9:30-10 a.m. at Bishop-King Funeral Home with funeral services following at 10 a.m. with Rev. Edward Gulledge officiating. Burial will follow in Dermott Cemetery under the direction of Bishop-King Funeral Home of Lake Village, Ark.
