Charles Calvin Heiss

Charles Calvin Heiss, 93, of Carlisle passed away peacefully at Chamber's Nursing Home under Hospice Care on July 22, 2018, after a long battle with dementia and pneumonia. Calvin was born February 9, 1925 on the family farm north of Carlisle. After his brother died in WWII, he was not able to attend college due to running the family farm. He was an engineer at heart and insured that all his children graduated from college. He retired from an almost 50-year career in farming and moved to the lake in Hot Springs. He worked the mutual window at Oaklawn Park and was an avid gardener until his health no longer allowed him to continue. He was born into and raised in the Carlisle First Methodist Church and moved his membership to Oaklawn United Methodist after retirement. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Chamber's Nursing and Rehab Facility in Carlisle along with the caregivers from Baptist Health Hospice. Dad loved each and every one of you as did we, his family. Your loving care will never be forgotten. He is survived by his children, Phillip (Rosemary) Heiss of Lakeland, Fla., Sandy Heiss of Memphis, Tenn., Larry Heiss of Little Rock, Tammy Tenison of Carlisle, Bonnie (David) Herring of Carlisle and David( Shannon) Collier-Tenison of Little Rock, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Clarence and Frances Evelyn Wells Heiss, daughter Cheryl Joy Heiss, three great-grandchildren, brother, Clarence Heiss, and sisters, Katherine Frances Heiss and Millie Jane Heiss Holt. A memorial service will be held July 24, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Carlisle First United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Carlisle First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
