Elizabeth Newbell

Elizabeth Newbell, 89, of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, June 9, 2018. Born Minnie Elizabeth Newbell March 8, 1929 in Pine Bluff, she was the daughter of John M. and Mable Busby Newbell. Ms. Newbell was reared and received her early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. She earned her B.S. and M.A. from Middle Tennessee State University. Ms. Newbell taught Social Studies at White Station High School in Memphis for 35 years. She was a beloved teacher and enjoyed going to class reunions at the high school after her retirement as long as she was able. After her retirement, she moved back to Pine Bluff in 1987. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Pine Bluff, where she was a member of the Hannah Sunday School Class. Ms. Newbell was also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Ms. Newbell was preceded in death by her parents and several cousins. Even though she had no immediate survivors, Elizabeth leaves behind many cousins, friends and former students who loved her dearly. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Reverend Kenneth Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery.
