Gary Porter Yow

Gary Porter Yow, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas was born on August 23, 1939 and passed away on June 10, 2018. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Grady E. Yow and Maxine Porter Yow as well as an infant brother William L. Yow. He was born in London, Arkansas but raised in North Little Rock. He attended University of Arkansas and Louisiana State University before enlisting in the United States Army. After service, he was a police officer for the North Little Rock Police Department. Gary was a banker for over 
35 years and retired as president of Greers Ferry Lake State Bank. Gary was very active in the local community. He was a member of the Rotary Club for many years serving as secretary and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He served as Police Commissioner for the City Council and was on the Planning and Zoning Commission. He was on the Board of 
Directors of Heber Springs Housing Authority for twenty-five years. He was a member of Chamber of Commerce and served as director and president. Gary was an active member of the First General Baptist Church (Connection Church). He served as a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and treasurer among many other positions over the years. Gary loved all kinds of sports. He enjoyed the outdoors-fishing and hunting with his friends. He was a good man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Reba Harral Yow; daughter, Vicki Lynn Witherspoon and her husband Thomas; two granddaughters, Stephanie Brooke Witherpoon and Sarah Lorene Witherspoon; his sister Miriam Lee and her husband Herman Lee, as well as nieces, nephews and many 
friends. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Olmstead Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at First General Baptist Church with Rev. Bennie Foster and Rev. Kevin Causey officiating. Interment will follow in Magness Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tim Harral, Douglas Lee, David King, Ethan King, Ben Thrash, Ricky Whisnant. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home. www.olmstead.cc.
