ROGER CARL JOHNSON, 77, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, June 12, 2018 in Jacksonville. He was born June 5, 1941 in East Orange, New Jersey to the late Howard Weston and Elaine Pauline Louis Johnson. Mr. Johnson served in the United States Air Force as a procurement specialist for more than 10 years and attained the rank of Captain. He later worked for Vickers in Searcy. Mr. Johnson was a friendly man who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially taking them bowling. He was a swimmer, runner and cyclist. He enjoyed reading and traveling to the annual family vacation on the beaches of Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Johnson also fought a courageous, 20 year battle with Parkinson's disease. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his father-in-law, LTC Gordon William Smethurst and sister-in-law, Dianne Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Smethurst; daughters, Catherine Marie McFall of Cabot and Christine Elaine Blumer and her husband, Dr. Russell D. Blumer of Toronto, Canada; grandchildren, Cameron W. McFall, Carter P. McFall, Ansley M. Blumer, Aaron J. Blumer and Alyssa E. Blumer; brothers, Eric Johnson and his wife, Sylvia Clute of Richmond, Virginia and Kenneth Johnson of Whippany, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Marilyn Smethurst of Newport News, Virginia, mother-in-law, Julia M. Smethurst of Cabot and six nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 in the chapel of Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery with military honors.
