MARION VIRGINIA (GINGER) JOHNSON FOWLER-ARMSTRONG was born in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 7th, 1922 to Gordan Eleazer Johnson and Zola Mae Johnson. She was the youngest of seven: Gordan, Warren, Harold, Doris, Ronald and May. She was educated in the Little Rock School System attending: Dunbar High School, Dunbar Junior College, Philander Smith College, and the University of Arkansas Fayetteville (Masters in Education). She taught in the Little Rock School District for 25 years at several schools, among them Jefferson Elementary School where she was one of four African-American teachers who integrated public schools in the late 60's. She married Dr. William Harry Fowler on Aug. 11, 1944 and the couple was blessed with five daughters, Sharon Gail, Harrietta Maye, Virginia Kaye, Doris Patricia and Renee Denise. She was a faithful member of White Memorial United Methodist Church for 93 years. She loved her church family, sang in the choir and faithfully worked in numerous leadership roles over the years. She had a love for serving others and God. Marion Fowler-Armstrong was initiated in the Gamma Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated at Philander Smith College in 1942; and upon graduation in 1944, immediately joined Beta Pi Omega Chapter. She became the twelfth president of Beta Pi Omega Chapter serving from Jan. 1971 – Dec. 1974. She was active in many organizations: Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, Philander Smith College National Alumni Group, Arkansas United Methodist Women, Dunbar Alumni Association – Lifetime Member and Dunbar Choir Singers. She also was a community service leader working with the American Heart Association, UNICEF and the March of Dimes. She leaves to cherish her memory: Daughters – Sharon Gail Fowler Anderson (Kansas City), Harrietta Fowler Lindsey (Little Rock), Virginia Fowler Walden Ford (Little Rock), Doris Patricia Wilson (Little Rock), Renee Denise Fowler Hornbuckle (Colleyville, Texas). Grandchildren - William Eric Lamont Anderson, Michael Jay Walden, Miashia Walden Gaye, William Fowler Walden, Kristie Withers Marshall (Nathan), Calvin Harry Withers, William Brent Withers (Sandra), Tyler Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fowler Hornbuckle, Rachel Renee Hornbuckle, Jordon Lee Hornbuckle; and great-grandchildren: Yamundow, Chloe', Jeremiah, Genesis, Kylen, Jasmine, Jada, Kaden, Joshua, Kierstyn and a host of other family and friends. All services will be held at St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 4600 Baseline Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72209. Family Reflection Hour, Thursday, June 28, 2018 – 6-8 p.m. Homegoing Celebration Friday, June 29, 2018. Viewing at 10 a.m. Service 11 a.m. Interment immediately following at Little Rock National Cemetery.
