Ira Vernon "Red" Dunn

Ira Vernon "Red' Dunn, 91, of Hampton died Monday, March 5, 2017 at Ouachita County Medical Center in Camden, Arkansas. Red was born in Delhi community of Calhoun County, Arkansas August 31, 1926, the third son of Truitt and Adrian Dunn. He had a career as general manager for the local Ford dealership and Calhoun County Sheriff for twelve years, as well as part time farmer. He was a lifelong member of Faustina Methodist Church, where he served as Board Chairman. He was a 50 year member of Hampton Lions Club, retired from Hampton Volunteer Fire Department and a 32nd degree Mason, and served on the Calhoun County Fair Board for thirty seven years. Red loved his camp on Ouachita River, hunting and fishing, gospel music, playing the guitar and singing bass. He enjoyed breakfast and afternoon coffee at the local cafe visiting with friends, his old blue pickup truck, chocolate pudding, and cornbread. On December 10, 1949 he married Francis Watts of Monticello, Arkansas, who survives him as does his grandson, Douglas Blann both of Hampton. Also surviving him are two brothers, Carroll Wayne Dunn of Little Rock and William Franklin Dunn of Tontitown; two sisters, Louise Dunn Silen of Hampton and Ida Lou Dunn Johnson of Little Rock; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great -ephews. He is preceded in death by three brothers, Horace Dunn, Joe T. Dunn, and James Harvey Dunn; one daughter, Cheryl Dunn; and one grandson, Brian Lee Dunn. Visitation will be Thursday, March 8, 2018 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Benton Funeral Home in Hampton. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Faustina Methodist Church near Hampton with Rev. Charles Perry, Rev. Jeremy Langley and Rev. Keith Nutt officiating. Burial will follow at Dunn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dunn Cemetery, P.O. Box 653, Hampton, Ark. 71744.
