CHARLES LONG, age 79, passed away suddenly on March 12th, leaving a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He was a graduate of Little Rock Catholic High School. After graduating, Charles proudly served in the US Air Force for 20 years. After retiring, he spent the next 20 years employed at Dassault Falcon Jet as an avionics mechanic and supervisor. His passion, though, was serving others. He volunteered in the 3rd floor play room – Camp Wannaplay, at Arkansas Children's Hospital from 1984 to 2011. He also served as one of their Eucharistic Ministers from 2007 to 2009. He has volunteered for the USAF 19th Medical Group refill pharmacy since 2007, St. Jude's Catholic Church home visits since 2007, and food delivery for the Care Channel since 2010. He has been an active member at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Jacksonville since 1984 where he has served as an usher each week for Saturday night mass. He gave selflessly and generously his whole life. Charles is preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Adeline Long, his wife, the love of his life Sandra Lee Long, 3 brothers - Maurice Long Jr, William Long and Thomas Long. He leaves behind his only child and biggest fan Rebecca Kendall, grandson Blake Dworshak and wife Danielle, grandson Andrew Kendall, 2 great grandchildren Dallas and Hailee, as well as 3 sisters, Elizabeth Waddle of Sherwood, Ark., Virginia Campbell and her husband Russell of Houston, Ark., and Mary Chambers of Little Rock, Ark. He also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and fellow volunteers. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at St. Jude's Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2018 at the funeral home, followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to Arkansas Children's Hospital.
