Funeral services for Erma (Ruth) Dean, maiden name Jones, 95 of Chico, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 30th, 2018, in the Chapel of Brusie Funeral Home, 626 Broadway in Chico, Calif. Ruth passed away with family by her side on May 19th in Chico, Calif. She was born December 27th, 1922 in Russellville, Arkansas to Minnie May Hottinger and Edward Jones. She began her journey to California on her cotton picking money, as well as several other jobs, with $150 in her pocket. Ruth married Vernal Loy Dean September 20th, 1942 in Virginia City, Nevada. As an entrepreneur, she and Vernal moved to Chico in 1947, where they started their trucking business, Vernal L. Dean Trucking, and farmed their walnut orchard. Ruth was an extremely hard working woman with a heart of gold. She and Vernal were always willing to lend a helping hand. Ruth will be remembered by her abundant love, tremendous hard work, and of course her quirky Arkansas sayings. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 29th, at Brusie Funeral Home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.brusiefh.com.
