Maybeth Johnston, 81, of Conway, Ark., went to be with the Lord May 23, 2018. She was born Feb. 26, 1937 in Little Rock, Ark., to the late Cyril E. and Kathleen Deese. Maybeth was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50, years Dub Johnston and her daughter Karen Lynn Nicks. Left to cherish her memory is her loving family; daughter Sheryl Anne Rainey and her husband Roy; Son Lance Johnston and his wife Melissa; granddaughters Mary Dean Johnston, Anne Ryan Johnston, Alison Nicks; Grandson Taylor Nicks; Sister Kay Miller and her husband Joe; nephew Allen Miller; neice Deese Miller; as well as many other family members including Dorothy Jean Johnston and Paul Johnston. Maybeth was a graduate of Little Rock Central High School, Little Rock Junior College and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She devoted her life to her family, church, career and community. She was the epitome of a role model to her children, always involved no matter what the activity. She was the embodiment of a Proverbs 31 women. Maybeth served as an Elder at Grace Presbyterian Church in Little Rock and First Presbyterian Church in Conway where she devoted significant time to the Conway Cradle Care ministry. She had a 40+ year career as Bookstore Manager at UALR and Hendrix College. She was a member of the UALR Delta Delta Delta Alumni Association where she served as an Advisor and President of the House Corporation Board. She was President of the Southwest Regional College Bookstore Association, the first female Trustee of the National Association of College Stores (NACS) and the first female on the Board of Directors for the College Stores Research and Educational Foundation. In 1999 she was awarded an Honorary Life Membership to NACS. Maybeth was a member of the PEO Sisterhood in Little Rock and Conway serving in offices ranging from Chaplain to President. She was a Founding Member and President of the Conway Altrusa Club International and served as President of the Faulkner County Literacy Council. She loved to garden and was a member of the Conway Garden Club. In 2005 she was named Friend of the Year for the Faulkner County Friends of the Library as well as serving on many other boards and committees throughout her lifetime. Maybeth truly had the gift of hospitality hosting Younglife, church and civic groups in her home throughout the years. A service in celebration of Maybeth's life will be held at 10 a.m., May 31, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, 2400 Prince St. Conway, Ark. 72034.
