Larry Loyd Snyder, 76, of Hot Springs finished his Earthly race on October 29, 2018. He was born on June 29, 1942 in Toledo, Ohio to the late Gerald and Harriet Snyder. In more than 6000 races, Larry was the first to cross the finish line; he was only the sixth US jockey to accomplish so many wins. In 1988 while still an active rider, he was inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and proudly accepted the prestigious George Woolfe Memorial Jockey Award the next year. Larry was inducted into the Fair Grounds Racing Hall of Fame in 1999, the Arkansas Walk of Fame in Hot Springs in 2001, and nominated for the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 2006. On October 25, 2018 the Winner's Circle at Oaklawn was named in his honor, and Larry was recognized as "a valued member of the Oaklawn family for nearly 60 years," as said by Oaklawn President Louis Cella. When he wasn't working on the racetrack he loved to spend his time outdoors fishing, hunting or simply watching the sun go down with family. While Larry was blessed with numerous accomplishments in his lifetime, one of his greatest was his 57 year marriage to his best friend and soulmate, Jeannette. Their love and support for each other is truly a testimony. Meeting Larry in Heaven are his parents; his beloved daughter, LaNette Snyder; and sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Danny Neighwander. Left to cherish his memory is his wife; son, Larry Loyd Snyder Jr. (Renata); grandsons, Dylan (fiance' Danielle Bade) and Dalton Snyder; brother, Gerald Snyder (Rhonda) and sister, Joyce Stark as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. A Visitation will be held in the Chapel of Gross Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Hot Springs Convention Center Rooms 207-209 with Pastor Rich Heffington officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as Pallbearers are Mike Noel, Ricky Jackson, Jody Piper, Terry Magee, Gerald Shuck and Ron Yates. Honorary Pallbearers are Eric Jackson, Louis Cella, John Lively and Tony Reni. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Arkansas Community Foundation for LaNette Snyder Scholarship Endowment at ACF 5 Allied Drive, Suite 51110, Little Rock, Ark. 72202, the Muscular Dystrophy Association or a charity of your choice.
