Staff Sgt. Derek Rashon Anderson

Staff Sgt. Derek Rashon Anderson, 30, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Newport departed this life Tuesday, October 23, 2018. He was born January 17, 1988 to Sammy Lee Anderson and Brenda G. Dicus and was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Derek was a 2007 graduate of Newport High School where he was known as "Derty". Derek joined the United States Army May 12, 2009 and was an Ordinance Specialist. While serving in the Army he earned the Army Accommodation Medal ARCOM 2, Army Achievement Medal AAM 4, Meritorious Unit Commendation MUC 1, Army Good Conduct Medal AGCM 2, National Defense Service Medal NDSM 1, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal GWTSM 1, Army Service Ribbon ASR 1, Certificate of Achievement COA 1, Combat Action Badge CAB 1, Driver Mechanic Badge-Driver Wheeled Vehicle DMB-DWV 1. Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in North Little Rock. Interment will be in Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
