Havus Eugene "Gene" Spann, 82, of Hensley, Ark., passed away Wednesday, November 14th, 2018. Born August 22nd, 1936, in Hensley, Ark., son of the late Willie Spann Moore. Preceded in death by his mother and grandparents, his wife of 55 years, Martha Sue Spann; son, Clyde Spann; granddaughter, Lauren Spann; brother Ray Henson and sister Norma Yarberry. Gene was self-employed as a timber contractor and then store owner of Spann's Grocery Store. His original store was opened in Woodson, Ark., as a old fashioned country store. Customers and friends could be found sitting around the wood heater playing checkers or dominos and chatting about everything from politics to religion. When he closed that location, he decided to re-open another store in the Orion community. He continued to cater to his customers by delivering goods to their homes. In his younger years, he was a big hunter. He loved being in the woods and running with his dogs so much so, he earned the nickname Blue tick. He was a man of great faith and a giving heart. He would do anything he could to help others in need. He was a warrior for God and spread God's word to all who would listen. Gene is survived by his son, Mike Coldiron (Fronda); daughter, Karen Rodriguez; grandchildren, Joshua Coldiron (Sierra), Jonathan Coldiron (Kelly), Andy Spann, Christopher Rodriguez and Katie Rodriguez; great-grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Coldiron, Joshua Coldiron, Newell Page, Chris Rodriguez, Thomas Rose and David Shoemaker. Honorary pallbearer Randy Akin. Visitation will be held at Roller Drummond, Friday, 10900 Interstate 30, November 16th, from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Orion Missionary Baptist Church, Redfield, Ark., Saturday, November 17th, at 1 p.m., with Bro. Mike Kirby officiating. Burial will follow at Orion Cemetery. Online guestbook: www.rollerfuneralhomes.com/drummond.
