Joy Lee Kirkpatrick Sly

Joy Lee Kirkpatrick Sly, age 91, of Fayetteville passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2018, at Hillcrest Home in Harrison. She was born April 30, 1927, in Bentonville, the daughter of Insley Johnson and Sarah Elizabeth Harp Kirkpatrick. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert E. Sly, and brother Burnard Kirkpatrick. She was a mother, housewife, and volunteer and worked outside the home. She and Robert lived in Memphis, Tenn.; Houston, Texas; Conway; Benton; Rogers; and Helena-West Helena, always returning home to their Razorbacks in Fayetteville, Ark. She graduated from Fayetteville High School and attended the University of Arkansas, majoring in art and where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and was the U of A Homecoming Queen in 1945. Joy was an accomplished seamstress, an expert in many handi-crafts (never sitting down without a work in progress), a pianist, and gardener. She loved to play bridge. She was an active member of Central Methodist Church, PEO from 1973 until the present, and Goldenrod Home Demonstration Club. Joy enjoyed her final years under the loving care of Hillcrest Home, where she enjoyed various activities including winning bingo and riding an elephant. Her family remembers her as a wonderful cook, often serving recipes learned from her mother-in-law Lucille Sly. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Porter (Rusty) of West Helena, Ark.; three grandchildren, Katherine Elizabeth Mantooth (Jamie) of Martin, Tenn., Jed Porter (Micah) of Batesville, Ark., and Sarah Margaret Russell (Ryan) of Auburn, Ala.; three great-grandchildren, Porter, Betsy and Jack Mantooth of Martin, Tenn.; three great-nieces, Ginny Lou Sargent Cronan of Dallas, Texas, Judy Sargent Kelly (Micky) of Frisco, Texas, and Jan Kirkpatrick Glosser (Jeff) of Austin, Texas; seven great-nieces and nephews; and nine great-great-nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Moore's Chapel with visitation from 9-10 and after the service. Pallbearers are Jed Porter, Jack Mantooth, Ryan Russell, Jim Gresham, Riley Porter, and Alan Ainley. Jamie Mantooth will be officiating.
