Joe Dean Young, 96, of NLR went to be with his Lord November 25, 2018. He was born Dec. 15, 1921 in Carlisle to Pete and Amy Weiss Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 70 years Rachel Rouse Young, and his beloved son-in-law Mike Stecks. He is survived by the other loves of his life, his daughter Jo Anne Stecks, grandson Michael Stecks Jr. of Scott, granddaughter Ami Stecks, great-granddaughter, Kennedy, and great great-grandson, Liam along with many nieces and nephews. Upon his graduation from high school Joe was a bus driver for U.S. Motor Coach for 1 year before enlisting in the Navy in 1942. He served as a gun captain on the USS Card # 11 until 1945. After WWll he returned to drive a bus for Continental Trailways until 1968. After serving 10 years in management, he drove another 10 years until his retirement in February 1989. He had great fun driving many Carlisle high school students on their senior trips as well as many choir and youth groups for his church. Throughout his life he was known for his love of horses, country music, Branson and George Jones. He gave his life to the Lord at Gaines Street Baptist Church in 1954. He was ordained as a deacon in 1959. He served in this capacity faithfully until his death. The family would like to give a special thank you to his friend Ernestine Trotter for much kind and compassionate care. A celebration of his life will be Thursday, November 29, 2018 at Lifeway Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 12 noon with services to follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Carlisle Cemetery following the service.
