Alvin John Munnerlyn

Alvin John (A.J.) Munnerlyn Jr., 86, left this world for the embrace of his heavenly father on Nov. 25, 2018. He transitioned peacefully in his sleep in the home of his daughter in Gardner, Kansas. A.J. was preceded in death by his parents Alvin John and Ruth Ann (Cummings) Munnerlyn of Jacksonville, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Shirley Gwendolyn (Bell) Munnerlyn, his children John Allen Munnerlyn, Linda Ann Townsend (Keith), David Michael Munnerlyn (Pamela), and Larry Edward Romack (Lyndra). He was the grandfather of thirteen and great grandfather of five. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann (Munnerlyn) Ruff (Dane). Over the years, A.J. served God in many ways at Berea Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Positions that he held included Head Deacon, Treasurer, Children's Church Pastor, Sunday school teacher, Trustee, and Director of the bus ministry. A.J. serviced as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army as a firearms instructor between the Korean and Vietnam wars. Professionally, A.J. was an underwriter for National Old Line Insurance Company, and an office manager for Mutual of New York Insurance Company from which he retired. The visitation will be held on Friday November 30th from 6 p.m. until 8 pm. at the Griffin Leggett Funeral Home on Landers Road, North Little Rock. Services will be held at Berea Baptist Church on Valentine Road, in Jacksonville at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 1. Interment will be at Arkansas Memorial Gardens followed by a lunch reception at Berea Baptist Church. Pallbearers are Joshua Romack, Matthew Romack, Christopher Romack, Jerod Townsend, Phil Alford, Paul Dane Ruff, and Mark Ruff. Online guest book at www.griffinleggettresthills.com.
