Frances Marie Smith, 97, of Bradford, passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. She was born February 22, 1922 in Butlerville, Arkansas a daughter of the late John Sherrill and Ada (Cox) Williams. Frances was a member of the Bradford Baptist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Women's Army Corp in Washington, D.C. She was the administrator of her husband's, Dr. Bernard Smith's, hospital and clinic in Bradford until their retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. Bernard Smith; sisters, Virginia McCutcheon and Louisa Williams and a brother, Steve Williams. She is survived by her son, David Bruce Smith (Susan) of Searcy; grandchildren, Bryan Smith (Amy) of Fayetteville and Chad Smith of Searcy. She was affectionately "Granny" to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Riley, Lena Beth and Brooks. Other survivors include her sisters, Jean Owens of Beebe, Ann Green of Oklahoma City and Faye Collier of North Little Rock; brother, Paul Williams (Karen) of Olive Branch, Mississippi and sister-in-law, Norma Williams of North Little Rock along with numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Oncology Center in Batesville, Dr. David Evans and Dr. Wade Falwell, Jr. and his staff for the extraordinary care during Frances' illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Dr. and Mrs. Bernard C. Smith Charitable Endowment, 5 Allied Drive, Suite 51110-Building 5–11th Floor, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Keith Lunceford officiating. Family will greet friends prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Heard Cemetery.
