LEONARD E. HARPER, 77, of Jacksonville passed from this life on Thursday, April 11, 2019. He was born Monday, February 16, 1942 in Portsmouth, Va. to the late Philip and Ruth Haywood Harper. Mr. Harper proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for more than twenty years. After his retirement, he worked for an additional twenty years as an Auditor with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Mr. Harper was a member of Bayou Meto Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed reading, camping, running, and sports. Leonard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Philip Harper. Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Olga Harper; sons, Brent (Tisha) Harper of Jacksonville, Brian (Maria) Harper of Galveston, Texas; grandchildren, A.J. Harper, Jordon Harper, Kylie Harper, and Haylee Harper. Other survivors include siblings, John Harper and Delores (Steve) Detwiler, both of Suffolk, Virginia; great-grandchildren, Collin Harper and Caysen Harper; along with a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 15, 2019 at Bayou Meto Baptist Church with Brother David Talbert officiating. Interment will follow at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 14, 2019 at the church. Arrangements by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, (501) 982-2136.
