Mary Helen Hooper, 92, died April 7, 2019, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville, Ark. She was born in Booneville, Ark., on October 15, 1926, to her late parents Louella Green Bevens and Millard Green. Mary Helen was raised in Booneville, was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Booneville, attended Arkansas Tech, and became a teacher in the Booneville public schools. She married A. E. Hooper, Jr. in 1949. He became a career US Army officer and together travelled all over the world, retiring in Russellville, Ark., in 1967. Soon after A.E.'s death in in 2004, Mary Helen relocated to Fayetteville, Ark., to be near her daughter Cathy. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law Joe Merkel In December of 2018. She is survived by her Jack Russell terrier, Louisa, and two daughters, Cathy Lou Hooper of Fayetteville, and Mary Janis Hooper (husband Jerry Miller) of Richmond Va. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Flora Green of Little Rock. She had eight nieces and nephews who she loved very much. Mary Helen loved flowers, gardening, playing bridge with her Russellville girlfriends, and her many trips to Santa Fe, N.M. Being an avid reader, she made sure that her daughters also grew up loving books, reading, and libraries. She was a staunch feminist and a strong supporter of Planned Parenthood. She loved her bunny rabbits. Rabbit, Rabbit, Rabbit. Burial will be private. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home in Booneville.
