Margaret Frances Smith, age 86, passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Countryside Assisted Living in Huntsville. She was born on April 3, 1933, in Tampa, Florida, to Donville and Ellen Marie (Pritchard) Philpott. She is preceded in death by her parents; and her three brothers, Bobby, Donald and Billy Philpott. Margaret joined the United States Army in October of 1951 and was the Chief Clerk during the Korean War until she was honorably discharged in February of 1953. She completed a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Tampa and then went on to teach elementary school and social studies for 31 years. Margaret was quite diverse. She had her pilot's license as well as managed several businesses. She was a part of the American Legion for more than fifty years and was a member of the Tampa Business Women's Organization for seventeen years. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Curtis Smith of the home; her two sons, Douglas Smith and wife (Beth) of Hindsville, and Curtis Smith, Jr. and wife Kandace of Tampa, Florida; five grandchildren, Rachel Purvis and husband Benjamin, Sarah Smith, Christopher Smith and wife Kristen, Meghan Clark and husband James, and Colby Smith; four great-grandchildren, Ella Smith, Jagger Smith, Brody Cole and Suzanne Purvis; one sister-in-law, Doris Jean Rohwr and husband Eldon; one brother-in-law, Paul Smith and wife Joy; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, in the pavilion at Fayetteville National Cemetery at 700 S. Government Street, Fayetteville, Ark. 72701. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Springdale American Legion Post #139 at 200 Spring Street, Springdale, Ark. 72764.
