Carol A. Knox

The inimitable Carol A. Knox was born in Heppner, Ore., on August 11, 1928, and died April 11, 2019, in Fayetteville, Ark., at the age of 90. Missing her deeply are her devoted daughter, Kimberly Gross Pennell, son-in-law Duke Pennell, both of Fayetteville, and cousin, Mark Jones, of Portland, Ore. She leaves behind many who remember her warmly. Carol is best known for her coral-colored 1968 Mustang named "Dora." The two made friends everywhere they went for 45 years, until glaucoma took her vision and her work life at age 85. She lived in the Northern California Bay Area from 1961 to 1989, then retired from Barnes-Hind Pharmaceutical and moved from her beloved Santa Cruz Mountains to Fayetteville to be close to her daughter — despite the weather. She found her later-life purpose serving as a care assistant for 23 years and making her people laugh with her keen wit. She was also a dedicated volunteer at 7 Hills Homeless Center and a contributor to the Sierra Club, Nature Conservancy, and the Wild Horse Rescue Center. She was a voracious reader and greatly valued the resources of the Fayetteville Public Library and the Arkansas Library for the Blind. Many thanks to caregivers from ELDirect who helped her at home, as well as the staff at Fayetteville Health and Rehab. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to 7 Hills Homeless Center or your local animal shelter. To sign the online guest book, visit www.nelsonberna.com.
