Alex G. Streett, of Russellville, died Thursday, April 25, 2019, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was born on February 21, 1939, in Camden, Ark., to Johnson Bruce and Gertrude Sanderson Streett. Alex performed his undergraduate studies at Henderson University and the University of Arkansas, while also serving in the United States Army. Following the completion of his military service and undergraduate work, Alex received his Bachelor of Laws and Juris Doctorate degrees from the University of Arkansas School of Law in 1965. Alex was part of the unique Streett family, an Arkansas institution spanning five consecutive generations of Arkansas lawyers dating back to the Civil War and continuing today. This more than 200-year unbroken line of Arkansas Streett lawyers includes his great-grandfather, grandfather, father, uncle, brother, two sons, a daughter, a niece, and several cousins. Alex married Sue S. Heidgen in November 1965 and began his career by serving as a law clerk for Associate Justice Paul Ward of the Arkansas Supreme Court. Alex and Sue moved to Russellville in 1966 and he established his law practice, the Streett Law Firm. He was elected by the people of the River Valley to serve as the prosecuting attorney for the 5th judicial district from 1971 to 1982, which at that time encompassed Pope, Johnson, Yell, Conway, and Faulkner counties. Throughout his career, he twice served as a Special Justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court and was involved in thousands of criminal trials representing both the rights of the injured and the accused. Alex was a member of Saint John Catholic Church of Russellville and the Knights of Columbus. He served as a Rotarian with the Russellville Noon Rotary Club for more than three decades where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. Alex was a member of the Arkansas Trial Lawyers Association and the Arkansas Bar Association and was recognized in 2015 with the status of Attorney Emeritus for his service to the people of Arkansas for more than 50 years. Alex was a passionate crusader against election fraud in Arkansas and from 1970 to 1978, he worked tirelessly with The Election Laws Institute to monitor elections and educate elected officials. During his tenure as Prosecuting Attorney, he was elected by his peers to serve as president of the Arkansas Prosecuting Attorneys Association. He was a member of the Pope County Democratic Party, the River Valley Intermodal Board, and the River Valley Alliance for Economic Development. As an attorney, Alex was admitted to practice in virtually every State and Federal Court in Arkansas, as well as the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Alex was also deeply committed to providing opportunities, services, and support to adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. He was honored to serve as a board member of Friendship Community Care, Inc. for 18 years and guide its development as its board president for 10 years. Alex often remarked that his work with Friendship was one of the most rewarding endeavors of his life. Alex was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, hiking, and watching wildlife at his remote cabin - surrounded by the majestic Ozark National Forrest - in northern Pope County. He was a devoted family man who cherished his annual summer vacation to the gulf coast with his wife Sue, their five children and spouses and their many grandchildren. Alex was preceded in death by his father, J. Bruce Streett, his mother, Gertrude Sanderson Streett, and three brothers: James Albert Streett, John Bruce Streett, and Julian Duval Streett.
