Rex Warren Dodson died Thursday, August 8, 2019. Rex was born July 18, 1930, in Macedonia, Arkansas in Columbia County. Son of the late Roy and Ella Mae Chisholm Dodson. Rex served in the military as an ammunitions instructor for the United States Army. He was a member of the Blue Warriors. He received his Business degree from Southern State University in Magnolia, Ark. from there he was involved in Restaurant and Hotel Management in El Dorado, Warren, and Crossett. He came from the Southern Hotel of Warren to the Rose Inn Hotel in Crossett as the resident manager and manager of all food and dining. In 1960, Rex built the Minit Shop, convenience store and operated the store for 45 years. He retired in 2005. He attended South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church for almost 60 years. He was an active member of the Arkansas Forestry Association. He and his brother, Cameron Dodson, were a passionate duo and together they shared their love of managing and conserving land across Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Cameron Dodson (wife, Buddy Dodson), and his brother-in-law Hanks Spikes. He is survived by his wife, Betty Zane Dodson of 59 years, his daughter Sherri Lynne Dodson, his son Stephen Warren Dodson, his granddaughters Jessica Gayle Johnson and Jeribeth Hicks, his grandsons Jonathon Freeman Hicks and James Earnest Hicks. His great-grandchildren Madison Gayle Mitchell, Hayden Elaine Herrington, and Shaeleigh Nicole Herrington. His nieces Beverly Moseley, Pamela Spikes, Susan Dodson Dees (Johnny). His nephew Mac Dodson and his wife Pat. His sister-in-law Laverne Spikes. Visitation services are Saturday, August 10, 2019, from 5-7 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home in Crossett, Ark. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at South Crossett Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Barry Carter and Bro. Don Justice officiating. Burial procession and services will be in Pinewood Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark.
