Betty Jean (Byrd) Rye

Austin, AR, 1933 - 2019

Betty Jean (Byrd) Rye, 86, of Austin passed away August 11, 2019. She was born March 9, 1933 in the McClelland Community in White County to the late Bennie and Millie (Baugh) Byrd. She followed her husband, Eugene's, career with AP&L (Entergy) to several Arkansas cities (Russellville, Pine Bluff, Forrest City, West Helena and Stuttgart). Upon Eugene's retirement after 40 years of service, they built their retirement house and moved home to Cabot.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rye was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Eugene Rye; three sisters and two brothers. Mrs. Rye is survived by her children, Theresa Rye of Fayetteville and Doug Rye (Gail) of Cabot. Betty was called "Big Mama" by her three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who adored her.
Her family will honor her request of being cremated and laid to rest beside her husband, who was the love of her life, in a private graveside service.
