Houston M. Gross, 94, of North Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, peacefully in his home. He was born in the Crossroads Community, Prairie County, Arkansas, on November 24, 1924. He served at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock during World War II as a truck driver transporting prisoners of war. He was known for his love of cars, quail hunting, squirrel hunting, and sports, especially the Arkansas Razorbacks and the St. Louis Cardinals. He faithfully read the Arkansas Democrat Gazette nearly every day of his life. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad after thirty-five years of service as a switchman. Houston is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Gross, of 65 years, one brother, two sisters, and one granddaughter. He is survived by his daughter Brenda Surratt and son-in-law, William, of Tucker, Arkansas; his son Robert Gross and daughter-in-law, Bernadita, of Jacksonville; and his daughter Barbara Gaulin and son-in-law, Greg, of Prairie Grove, Arkansas. He was blessed with six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A visitation will begin at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 14 followed by the funeral at 2 p.m. at Smith-North Little Rock Funeral Home.
