Janet May Clark

Janet May Clark, 98, of Little Rock departed this life on Saturday August 17, 2019. She was born in Moreton Cheshire, England on April 8, 1921 to Walker and May Templeton. She attended school in Litherland, England. In a time when women were usually conscripted in to the Army, Janet was determined to follow her father's Royal Navy example and volunteered for the Women's Royal Naval Service. As a Petty Officer she was promoted to Leading WREN and recommended for commission to The Royal Naval College at Greenwich, England. She volunteered for overseas duty and was assigned to New Orleans, La. to the British Routeing and Liaison Office where she met her future husband, Naval Surgeon Dr. William Alden Clark. They were married in 1945 in New Orleans after which she traveled back to England for her military discharge. After the war she sailed from England to the United States on the steamship Queen Mary with the first boatload of G.I. war brides to join their families in the states. After the war Janet settled into life in Little Rock while her husband entered private medical practice. She raised five children and was active in the PTA, Garden Club and the Mid-South Watercolor Society. She enjoyed tennis, Bridge and was a seasoned world travelor, a faithful member of Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church for many years. Janet was preceded in death by her husband and numerous family members. She is survived by her five children, Jeff Clark and wife Lisa, Lucile Sausen, Margaret Clark, Penny Bruno, Beth Greene and husband Bill; brother, Denys Templeton of Paso Robles, Calif. and sister, Joy Toplis of Ilkeston, England. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelley West, Jack Clark, Tim Perkins, Nathan Clark, Dr. Richard Bruno, Dominic Bruno, Genny Bruno, Kakki Greene and Alex Greene; and eleven great-grandchildren and by her beloved nieces and nephews. The Family would like to express their gratitude to the management and staff of Briarwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their devoted care of our mother for the past six years; and to Hospice Home Care of Little Rock for their special care in the last month of Janet's life. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Griffin-Leggett Healey and Roth. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Home Care of Little Rock.
