Doris Anne (Daniel) Hurley passed away in Little Rock, Arkansas, on August 23, 2019, at the age of 92. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Geoffrey Gibson and Mary Hazel (Willett) Daniel, as well as, husband, Joseph Hurley, sister, Dorothy Faye "Tony" Daniel Kinghorn, brother, Danny Daniel, daughter, Jen (Brunson) Fleming and bonus daughter, Alice (Hurley) Averill. Doris is survived and remembered by one sister, Dona Rae (Daniel) Martinez of Dallas, as well as six children: Eldred "Matt" Brunson III of Hueytown, Ala., Branch Brunson of Los Angeles, Calif., Geoff Brunson of Fayetteville, Ark., Marc Brunson (Laura) of Sugar Hill, Ga., Amy Brooks of Little Rock, Ark., and Leah Ford (Jon) of Little Rock, Ark. Doris is survived by eight grandchildren: Ashley Ward, Marc David Brunson, Mattatha Johnson, Clifton Fleming, Camille Fleming, D.J. Brooks, Joseph Brooks, and Jonathan Ford, as well as, two great-grandchildren. Doris is also survived by one bonus son, Ed Hurley (Gayle) and four bonus grandchildren. Doris was born in Tampa, Florida, on September 7, 1926, and grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Doris graduated from Holy Angels Academy High School in Jonesboro in 1944. Before completing her studies at the University of Arkansas, Doris studied pre-med for two years at Mount St. Scholastica in Kansas. Doris completed a Bachelor of Science from the University of Arkansas in 1948 and went on to graduate in 1978 with a Masters in Library Science from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. Throughout her life, Doris enjoyed travelling, playing bridge, dancing, jazz music, reading, a zest for life, and advocated strongly for civil rights and equality. Doris worked as a stewardess with C&S Airlines out of Memphis from 1949 to 1952, allowing her to travel extensively, to include visits to the beautiful island of Cuba, and learn how to golf from a handsome pilot. After marrying, Doris left C&S to work at WDIA radio station in Memphis, Tennessee, with such greats as Beale Street Blues Boy (B.B. King). Many years and seven children later, after she completed her graduate degree, Doris worked at Crowley's Ridge Regional Library in Jonesboro, eventually serving as Director until 1979, at which time she reconnected with the "love of her life", Joe Hurley. For a number of years, Doris and Joe lived in El Dorado, Arkansas, where they continued to enjoy the company of family and many friends. Doris continued in her career at UAMS AHEC Medical Library in El Dorado until 1993. Doris and Joe eventually retired in Fayetteville, Arkansas where they continued to enjoy travels and life prior to moving to Little Rock in 2012. Doris enjoyed the last few years of her life in peaceful residence at Parkway Village in Little Rock.
