Marietta Downs Laseter

Photo of Marietta Downs Laseter
Marietta Downs Laseter, born July 24, 1931, at her grandmother's home at Rocky Mound just outside Hope, Arkansas graced this earth for 88 years, 4 months and 6 days. She grew up in Hope with her parents, Evie Ward Rice and Johnnie Dale Downs. She graduated Hope High School in 1949, a proud member of the Hope High Bobcat "49'ers". She attended business college in Dallas and subsequently married Donald J. Laseter in 1952. She spent time "married to Uncle Sam" until 1959, as Don was drafted and chose to enter the USAF shortly after they married. She and Don moved to Little Rock around 1960 and established their home in central Arkansas, subsequently moving to Bryant in 1977. Marietta was an accountant and a highly successful Avon representative for some 30+ years. She enjoyed meeting people and knew most everyone, one way or another. She always had a church home, most recently being a member of Indian Springs Baptist Church. Her church family truly was her extended family. She poured herself into teaching Sunday School and any way she could to help her church family. Marietta is preceded in death by her mother and father, EW and Johnnie D. Downs, husband, Donald J. Laseter, brother, Charles E. Downs, son, Donald Mark Laseter and grandson, J. Cody Varnadore. She is survived by a daughter, Amylia A. Varnadore (Gray) and two grandsons, Lou and Mac Jordan. She left this earthly life peacefully and calmly in the early morning hours of November 30th, 2019 at home, with her daughter in Mountain View. She will be greatly missed and was greatly loved and respected while she was with us. Her memory will carry on in her mannerisms and the reflection of her love through her friends and family.
