Elmer Eugene Jackson

Mr. Elmer Eugene Jackson was born on Thursday, October 9, 1947, to the late Joseph and Bessie Lee Anderson Jackson Sr. He grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas, where he accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. After attending and graduating from Harris High School in 1965, formerly named Pulaski County Training School, Elmer continued his education by attending the Agricultural Mechanical and Normal School (AM&N) in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. In order to serve his country, and see the world, Elmer joined the United States Navy after graduating from AM&N College, and served honorably during the Vietnam War and at all other times. Upon his honorable release from active duty from the Navy in 1972, Elmer continued to serve his country in the Naval Reserve Unit until he retired to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family. During his military career, Elmer met and married his wife, Brenda Jackson, in 1980 and to this union, a son, Elmer Jackson II was born. Also during his military career, Elmer donated clothing to orphanages located in countries he was assigned to duty. After retiring from the Navy, Elmer pursued his passion for remodeling houses and doing carpentry, plumbing and electrical work as well as investing in rental property. In 1994, he began a career at Circle K (currently E-Z Mart) where he enjoyed a subsequent retirement from in 2015. On December 5, 2019, Elmer received his wings at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by his twin sister, Thelma Louise Jackson-Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Jackson; his son, Elmer Jackson II, both of Little Rock, Arkansas; two God-daughters, Karla Jones (Curtis) of Sherwood, Arkansas and Ashley Rodgers of Little Rock, Arkansas; one great God-daughter, Jasmine McElwee of Little Rock, Arkansas; his brother, Joseph Jackson, Jr. of North Little Rock, Arkansas; his sister, Mary Lois Lewis of Jacksonville, Arkansas; three sisters-in-law, Royce Locke of Malvern, Arkansas; Janice Bunting of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Carol Buckner of Malvern, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, Anthony Buckner of Malvern, Arkansas; and a beloved, best special friend, Larry Rodgers (Edna) of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as a number of nephews, nieces, cousins and many relatives and special friends. Family hour will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, December 13, 2019, in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Healey & Roth, 5800 W 12th Street, Little Rock, Ark. 72204. Funeral will be 11 a.m., Saturday, at the Colonel Glenn church of Christ, 7001 Colonel Glenn Rd., Little Rock. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday, with Navy honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
