Margaret Charlene Shehane

Margaret "Charlene" Shehane, 85, of Little Rock, passed away December 11, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ed Shehane; brother, Butch Rogers and wife, Karen; and a host of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, friends and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Lillian Rogers and Clifton Dale Rogers, and sister, Mary Arlene Hanson. Charlene graduated from Henderson State University and earned her Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While at Henderson, she was named the International Sweetheart of Kappa Sigma Kappa Fraternity. Charlene taught high school college preparatory English, speech and drama for 37 years. Among her accomplishments, she was named PTA State Teacher of the Year, Speech Teacher of the Year, and honored with the Jack Stephens Excellence in Education award. She was State President of Delta Kappa Gamma, Pulaski County President of Alpha Delta Gamma, and was on the selection committee for the Governor's School. Charlene will be remembered by her students as a demanding, yet loving and caring teacher. Many thanks go to the staff of Kindred Hospice and to Charlene's caregiver, Dee Flowers, for their compassionate love and care. Services will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 1 p.m., at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.).
