Rolland Roy Carter, 79, of Jacksonville, passed away December 22, 2019 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born March 14, 1940 in Hazen, Arkansas to the late Jim and Lena Roach Carter. Mr. Carter proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 23 years with two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was stationed at Naval Air Station - New Orleans. After his military career, he was in the Civil Service. Mr. Carter loved to catfish and enjoyed fish fries, even hosting fish fries for servicemen at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He enjoyed deer, squirrel and duck hunting, but will be remembered for his pocket knife and lighter. Mr. Carter was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Rolland was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Erika Carter, who passed away in 2013; siblings, Nellie, Carmen, Marvin, Delward and Haynes. Survivors include his daughter, Marcia Hickok and her husband, William, of Kent, Washington; grandchildren, Melena and Carter Hickok; sister, Doris Mathis of Jacksonville and brother, Jimmy W. "J.W." Carter of Lonoke. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home with Pastor John Carter officiating. Entombment will follow at Chapel Oaks Mausoleum. Visitation will be 10:30-11 a.m. prior to the service. Arrangements by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home, 501-982-2136.
