Wesley Jamell Nichols, age 46, passed away on December 24, 2018 after a long struggle of drug addiction. We are grateful that when he died in his apartment in Hudson, N.Y. he was with his mother, who devoted her life to him especially after his accident. Wesley was born in Little Rock on July 13, 1972, the son of Linda Jamell-Norton and Dee Nichols. Wes grew up in Little Rock and enjoyed playing baseball, playing guitar, writing music, and listening to his favorite bands. He was introduced to drugs early in life and never could break the chains of addiction. His hazel blue eyes were beautiful, his smile could light up the room, and his mischief was constant. He never met a stranger. He loved his family, but his drug addiction tainted his relationships with those he loved most. His best accomplishment was his beautiful daughter, Hazel. This last year was so hard on him, he couldn't forgive himself for all the things he had done to all of us. For the last year he hardly ever got out of his room, just sitting playing the guitar, writing music and wrote songs for his daughter who was the light of his life. We did have a lot of fun, we cooked, sung, played jokes on each other and sit for hours talking about his childhood, remembering times with his Pawpa and Mamaw (Kay and Edna Jamell). He would call his Aunt Sammie for spiritual advice or just to talk. He wanted to be a good son, brother and uncle but his addiction and depression always messed up everything. I thank God for all he good memories I will carry with me forever. He was in so much pain after his car accident, he was never the same, his depression and addiction contributed to his death, he just went to sleep. If he could tell anyone anything it would be to not to do as I did but to do as I say, "don't ever start drinking or experiment with drugs, it's not worth it and it will destroy everything you love and every relationship you'll have." If you have a loved one with depression or addiction problems call for help, it's there and let them always and forever know that you love them. I never gave up on him, he loved me to the end of the earth and I him. We take comfort in knowing that he is free from the struggle that haunted him. We would have given anything for him to experience that freedom while he was with us. Wes leaves behind his mother and step-father, Linda and Doy Norton; his brother, Chris Maxwell (Kelly Storrs) and nephew, Angus Maxwell, his beautiful daughter, Hazel Jamell Nichols, Aunt Sammie Jamell, Uncle Steve Jamell (Terri) and cousins Elizabeth Kimball and Josh Jamell. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Dee Nichols. He leaves behind Lisa Nichols, his step-mother and half brother Allen Nichols; Uncle Jerry Nichols (Betty), Uncle Tim Nichol and several cousins. He had a host of friends from Arkansas to New York and was loved by anyone that knew him.
